How Gujaratipedia ranks places
Every ranked list on this site uses one formula, one set of publishing rules and one category map. Here they are in full, with a real example from the data.
The score
Sorting by star rating alone rewards places with a handful of reviews: a clinic with three five-star reviews would sit above a hospital rated 4.6 by two thousand patients. So each place's Google rating is blended with the average rating for its category across Gujarat, in proportion to how many reviews it has:
score = (reviews × rating + 50 × category average) ÷ (reviews + 50)
A place with few reviews sits close to the category average until more people rate it; a place with thousands of reviews is scored almost entirely on its own rating. Places need at least 5 reviews to be ranked at all; places with fewer are listed under the ranking without a position.
When a list gets its own page
A city and category get a ranked page only when at least 10 places in it have a Google rating backed by 10 or more reviews. Below that, a "best of" list would be too thin to be useful, so the category shows only as a count on the city's guide. Today that rule publishes 651 lists across 48 cities.
What counts as a listing
The places in this directory carry 1,563 different Google Maps categories, and the category often does not say what a place is. Of the 1,423 places with “sweet” or “mithai” in their name, 687 are filed as candy stores and 201 as sweet shops. Many eateries in Gujarat are called hotels: 131 of the 3,225 places filed as hotels have eatery words in their names (restaurant, dhaba, tea, paan, thali and the like). Gujaratipedia maps each list to a checked set of Google categories and leaves a place out of a list when its category is not on that set, and those eatery-named “hotels” are kept off the hotels lists. The result misses some real businesses rather than putting others in the wrong list.
Duplicate listings are merged: the same Google place ID from two collection runs counts once, and two listings with the same name and phone number in the same city count once.
Freshness
Ratings and review counts were collected from public Google Maps listings between July and September 2026. Each list states the months its data comes from. Numbers move after collection; the Google Maps link on every listing shows the current figure.
Films and people
The film list covers Gujarati feature films released from 2014 onwards. Each title was checked against IMDb or Wikipedia. The same film spelled two ways in different sources is merged into one entry, and the merges are recorded with the data. When sources disagree on the release year, the page shows both. Film counts for directors, writers, producers and performers come from these credits, not from outside totals.
People lists come from Wikipedia and other named sources. Net worth, subscriber and follower figures carry the source and the date they were read, because they change.
What this is not
These rankings summarise public reviews. They are not inspections, medical or legal advice, or endorsements. Nobody pays to be listed or ranked.
